Tuesday in India: Example of Advertising Budget Spent Well

Cheap (positive note!), cheerful and targeted!

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has launched a digital campaign to educate consumers about the importance of health.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

When talking to youngsters, talk in their own language and use their channels.

They gave your organs a lovely WhatsApp group to call their own and.. it is really enjoyable (serious note!).

Tuesday in India: Wake Up in The Morning and Smell This

Hold your breath and count to ten, as this sky-high striving ad falls (flat?) in front of your eyes..

Nivea Men has rolled out a video ad (conceptualised by DigitasLBi) which deals with Indian consumers’ attitude towards body odor (which often sounds something like ‘That's not my problem if you can smell me’).

Doesn't this ad itself have an odor?

Everything is just a bit loose and hyped up.

Much more memorable message was rolled out by Nivea in the begging of 2016, in exactly same 1 minute and 11 seconds. Watch.

Tuesday in India: Not Too Shabby for Any Shaadi

Love may be the losing game, but luckily at least wedding is a fun one.

Hotel chain Marriott India has rolled out a digital film (conceptualized by OgilveOne) to promote itself as a destination for weddings.

Elegant, emotionally charged and delivers gorgeous, lightweight brand presentation.

Some scenes were a little over the top for my taste, but my Indian girlfriends loved it and there was not a dry eye in the house.

Target reached!

Tuesday in India: Wherever Whenever

Just weird.

The emotion I get after watching this ad is.. raw awkwardness.

Maruti Suzuki's ad film for its sedan Dzire (conceptualised by Dentsu Impact) aims high but really falls short.

Better luck next time.

Tuesday in India: Doing Diwali Ads The Right Way

Candles and rangolis, food, family, gifts and.. a bursting box of distinctive ads – this is what makes Diwali special for me.

Do you know that you could actually build an empire with making just Diwali ads? Naturally I wonder how come there is still no agency which specializes in that? Bon idea!

Jokes aside, from a bunch of this year's Diwali ads I just chose three favourites.

Catch your treats from Netflix, Surf and Flipkart!

Tuesday in India: Don't Act Like a Boob, Better Check It!

Keep your eye on the ball.

Or a boob.

Ample Missiion Events Entertainment has partnered with AurDikhao, a digital media channel, to roll out a campaign 'DetectToDefeat' to raise Breast Cancer Awareness.

Men are programmed to love breasts and it's quite eye-catching..

..the message, I mean.

Tuesday in India: It Came, We Saw, Still Dumbfound

Do you think he knows what it is?

This was the question on everyone's mind last week, seeing Pierce Brosnan aka James Bond as a new brand ambassador for Pan Bahar.

To those of you unaware, Pan Bahar is an Indian brand of "paan masala", a product which is often associated with a highly addictive form of chewing tobacco.

Pierce Brosnan endorsing it with "Class never goes out of style.” gave a rude shock to me.

Hope he at least got good money for this.

Tuesday in India: Live and Let Live

There's the moment, probably no more than one Earth second, in which you know that there is something good in front of you.

Like, an ad.

This ad.

eBay India has rolled out a TVC which provokes a conversation.

Hopefully, the context will last longer than the immediacy of the content.

Big cheers!

Tuesday in India: Cuteness Overload!

This Britannia Good Day ad squeezes the smile out of you.

Quickly and painlessly.

The brief to the agency was to appropriate smile to the brand. And that's the best thing Deepika Padukone knows how to do.

Puff puff, done!

Tuesday in India: She Bangs, She Bangs!

Tanishq is clever. Of this you need no telling.

Especially, if you've been following their advertising path.

With women empowerment ideas in India generating a ton of followers and buzz right now (for all the right reasons), this ad is another bowl of cherries.

Only by the end you'll realize it's a jewellery ad, or..Now, that I told you.

Tuesday in India: Having a Baby vs Having a Car

It's the old little trick: show us the baby in an ad and we will emotionally watch it.

Not this time.

Skoda has rolled out a TVC that compares experiences of having a baby vs encountering brand with new design, four-year service gear and new showrooms ("the feeling when something so good becomes even better").

Really?

I get what you're trying to do there but it didn't work.

The emotions are just so mismatching.

Tuesday in India: Sorry, They Aren’t Listening!

Light on eyes, heavy on message.

Cinthol has released a film (conceptualised by Creativeland Asia) that brings to light a few sorrows that female athletes (and enthusiasts) face withing Indian society.

The topic of women empowerment is oh-so-in demand right now!

Tuesday in India: Is This Lipstick on a Pig?

This is what happens when you have loads of money to spend on advertising and you have no idea what to do.

Finolex rolled out a film that is quite entertaining but in my humble opinion won't sell those fans like hot cakes. Or enhance the image of the brand. Actually, it won't make me think or remember the brand at all.

They just backed the wrong horse, don't you think?

Tuesday in India: Indian Humour Done Right

It's oh-so full of beans!

ZopNow, the e-grocery space, has rolled out 3 TV ads and they are damn fun!

For those of you, who don't get the language, long story short: the maid Kanta Bai enjoys herself and isn't doing household chores since there is nothing to work with at home, the materials are lacking. ZopNow says, "No more excuses!" and speedily delivers everything what is needed.

This campaign is built on some very thoughtful insights. Bang on!

Tuesday in Olympics: Champions weren't born champions. They were born babies.

It's the well known fact that good things come in babies.

Riding on that potential Nike has launched a 60-second video (conceptualised by Wieden + Kennedy Portland) and as usual.. Nike does not disappoint. Actually it's pretty intense.

And it's not just because I'm a fan of Bobby Cannavale.

Watch and believe!

Guess..

Humourous and quirky. Intrigues you in the beginning but fails to deliver the culmination - what?

Tuesday in India: Haunted by Guilt

Tough logic doesn't work here. Neither does humour. Only deep, Bollywood-deep emotion.

Mumbai Traffic Police presents a campaign 'Be a responsible friend', created by FCB Ulka.

It's a 3-minute journey through a man’s guilty conscience and the road is rocky.

I also found it too long, stretched out and editing in some places raised my eyebrows.

But bravo for spreading a significant message.

Tuesday in India: You Have Permission to be Charged

Marketing budgets have given birth to some amazing things.

Is this one of them?

KFC introduced a new limited edition KFC Watt A Box that features USB connections (and even includes the cables) to charge your mobile devices.

Charging station in a box filled with chicken doesn't sound too bad.

Just hope people will remove the battery before throwing this box - let's not continue unsustainable practices!

Tuesday in India: Hop, Skip and a Jump to the Great Concept

Stand up for your right to get a rupee instead of a candy for change!

Paytm has rolled out an ad (conceptualised by McCann Erickson) that vividly presents the cashless transfer of money.

Not sure about how usable it is in reality but it looks powerful.

Hoping for some revolution in India if all goes well..

Tuesday in India: Google Google in the App, How Famous Could I Make My Dad?

Google seems to know all the main tricks in Indian book.

They've just warmed the cockles of  our heart (again!) with a short story which is far better than some of Bollywood movies.

Expressive, emotional, beautifully shot.

And the product is tastefully positioned throughout the story.

Congrats, Google!

Tuesday in India: Liar Liar, Pants on Fire

Till lie do us part.

Chevrolet India has launched a global campaign themed 'Shattering Perceptions' and it starts with "Real people. Not actors."

Huge mistake.

Especially when you hire actors on a budget who can hardly say their lines without superficiality. Or it's just me?

If you lie your consumers since the opening of the ad, how can you be perceived as truthful later, telling them the benefits of the car?

My perception of the brand is surely shattered.

Tuesday in India: Fortune Favours The Bold

When was the last time you saw men wearing bright make up and heels and being adored?

You'll see now.

My mumbaikar friend sent me this new Jabong campaign with a subject line "Check out what my friends are CRAZY about!".

Jabong continues being bold and visionary with rule bending, bright ads that celebrate experimental fashion.

Quite a fresh breath of air for Indian market.

And as Goethe once said "Boldness has genius and power and magic in it."

Keep that magic up, Jabong!

Tuesday in India: Sex Sells - Fear Sells Too

Bring the cough-sneeze mix on!

This simple but effective Symphony ad runs on deep-rooted fear.

Fear that causes Indians to stop and think. And then, hopefully, buy.

Who doesn't want to protect the beloved ones from in-house pollution after all?

Tuesday in India: Why Should You Watch This? That's Right, You Shouldn't

The summer heat is kicking in.

No wonder soft drink ads are pouring like an avalanche.

Last week we saw sensous ad for Tropicana.

This week has nothing to shout about.

I know celebrity endorsement in India is a killer but just having Priyanka Chopra stand and drink Appy fizz would have been much better than this chaotic nonsense.

Another ad for the famous Limca is a minor disappointment as well.

This type of overused comedy ads are not funny anymore. Neither to my Indian friends whom I tested nor to a friend's dog who loves refreshing drinks.

Now that we’ve seen this ad, let's start again, Limca?

Tuesday in China: Leftover Woman vs Independent Woman

"I am a leftover woman".. ..

no modern Western woman ever said.

But in China (and neighboring countries) "leftover woman" is a common label to mark all single women over 25.

That's a massive social pressure because not all women wish to be in a relationship or get married young.

Check the latest P&G skincare brand SK-II campaign trying to bring a little hope for independent women in China.

Warning: It will make your eyes watery and heart heavy.

Tuesday in India: Goosebumps - But For the Wrong Reason

It has great music.

It has beautiful copy.

It has impressive shots.

It's extremely motivating.

But did the team of mobile brand OnePlus get the wrong end of the stick?

It sounds more like a teaser for an upcoming fitness club than a high-end smartphone.

Tuesday in India: Biting The Hand That's Feeding Us?

From 1995 to 2015 -  nearly 313,000 farmers committed suicide in India.

Having in mind that farmers directly feed the entire nation, this is a very very painful number.

Stop everything and listen to this insightful, powerful and - I'd say - haunting monologue.

Then join #SaveTheFarmer campaign and contribute to any NGO that supports Indian Farmers.

It's not enough to have a smokin' hot actress to spread an anti-smoking message.

That's why I quite liked the new ad for Virgin Active Health Clubs. It got that “sense of humour”.

Tuesday in India: I See And I Don't Believe

I'm not a big fan of misleading ads.

And I perceive this one - a part of digital campaign of Standard Chartered - as confusing.

We see a lady runner in action on the streets of Mumbai. I watch and I smile and I can't stop thinking of video editing.

I have tried running in the streets of Mumbai exactly four times (that's determination!) and failed miserably. I ask my Indian friends around and they nod all together.

Running in the streets (and pavements and sidewalks and everywhere else except joggers' parks) of Mumbai soon turns into a marching trip. It's too crowded, cramped and populous. Too many people, animals and other barriers that give you a reason to stop.

Everything else in the ad sounds pretty convincing.

#RunForAReason - just first find the place, not the reason.

Tuesday in India: Can This New Generation Cry Properly?

Great news: it will be dark and freezing for the next three month. The perfect excuse to get sofa-licious and watch the most entertaining ads from my supply.

And here comes the first distinguishable ad this year.

This ad, conceptualised by McCann Worldgroup India, is based on Rajasthan's professional mourners. However, it will bring you more smiles than watching cats sing on YouTube.

It's nicely done but somehow lost me somewhere by the middle.
